TROJAN BATTERY COMPANY HONORED FOR CLEAN AIR EFFORTS

LITHONIA, GA-On October 2, Trojan East joined the ranks of well-known organizations such as BP, The Coca-Cola Company, The Georgia Dept. of Transportation, AT&T, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Lockheed-Martin and the Veterans Affairs Regional Office, Atlanta. This was possible thanks to the leadership of Trojan Employment Representative, Heather Baldt, who accepted the 2003 PACE Starter Award on behalf of the company.

The prestigious PACE Starter Award is given in recognition of an employer that offers an outstanding program promoting alternative forms of transportation and other strategies that promote clean air. Specifically, it is awarded for a program that has been in place for less than one year.

Baldt and other members of the Trojan staff, including Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Mary Long, were honored at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. Georgia Governor, Sonny Perdue, was the keynote speaker. He was joined by Ellen Macht, Executive Director of the Clean Air Campaign, and WSB radio personality, Capt. Herb Emory.

In less than a year, Trojan East moved from being a Clean Air Campaign Participant to a Platinum Level Partner by completing a partnership plan that outlines the company's commitment to various programs and by implementing an employer-based incentive program.

In addition to making some operational changes, the Trojan team took advantage of the high percentage of employees already using alternative modes of transportation. The task team implemented a Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program and appointed champions to ensure access to employees working on various shifts. They also made sure new employees were given information from the start, so they could begin using the program right away.
