TROJAN-SPONSORED MARINER SAILS TO VICTORY
Bermuda often conjures up images of boats and planes mysteriously lost at sea. But to skipper Tim Troy, Bermuda means victory. In his bid to be the first American to win the prestigious Vendee Globérace, Troy showed the world his sailing skill by winning the Bermuda 1-2, a 1270-mile race from Newport, RI to Bermuda and back.

The first leg of the race must be completed single-handedly, while the return trip is a double-handed competition. Troy completed the first leg of the race in 75 hours, 13 minutes, and was joined by South African sailor Neal Petersen to complete the return 635-mile leg in 73-1/2 hours aboard Troy's Open 60, Margaret Anna. They defeated 31 other boats to win.

The race was the first part of the America One Sailing Triple Crown Challenge. Troy has qualified to race in the Europe 1 New Man star, which takes place in June 2004. He must complete the Europe 1 race in order to compete in the Vendee Globé a grueling 90-day, single-handed, non-stop, around-the-world race, scheduled to begin in November 2004.
